Operations Manager
About Us
At Basis, we’re not just building a company — we’re building the future. We’re redesigning the electrical systems that power our homes to fight climate change, reduce household costs, and create a better future for generations to come. That means rethinking everything, not just what we build, but how we build it.
To do this, we need incredible people. People who are bold, creative, sharp, and thoughtful. People who care. People who move fast and think differently. That’s where you come in.
The Role
We are looking for an Operations Manager to own our supply chain commercially and run the operational side of our metering business. You will be the single commercial voice to our suppliers, and the person who keeps retailer work orders, registry and audit records moving.
Basis is its own Metering Equipment Provider, a regulated business unit whose recurring revenue rests on retailer relationships. Those relationships rest on doing the operational work quickly and correctly.
This role suits someone who is technical and commercial at once, works with a high degree of autonomy, and wants a highly visible remit in a small team.
Some of the things that you might be involved in include:
Supplier Ownership: Own our supplier relationships end to end, including negotiation, contracting and the commercial delivery of cost-down, working with engineering for the technical view.
Meter and Comms Module: Own S&OP, the production plan, PO release, shipment documentation and invoicing.
Vendor Performance: Hold accountability for vendor delivery and DIFOT, and report on both.
Finance Interface: Share panel invoicing and reconciliation with Finance.
Retailer Work Orders: Execute retailer work orders accurately and at the speed our commitments require, and help automate the manual steps behind them.
Registry and Audit: Run the registry day-to-day and keep audit records complete and current.
Retailer Relationships: Maintain contracts, day-to-day relationships and continuity with our retailer partners.
Strategy: Drive decisions on how we fulfil orders, where we hold stock and how much.
Logistics Management: Manage logistics providers and logistics spend, with day-to-day execution through the Operations & Customer Support role.
In a small team, everyone carries real weight, so we’re looking for someone who takes ownership, follows through on what they say they’ll do, and is just as comfortable negotiating with a supplier as they are keeping a registry audit-ready. This is not a leadership role, but you’ll have a high degree of autonomy and a very visible seat at the table.
About You
We think you’ll be a fit for this role if you have the following skills/or traits:
5+ years in operations, supply chain or procurement for physical products, ideally hardware or electrical
Demonstrated commercial ownership of suppliers: negotiation, contracting and cost-down
Experience running S&OP, production planning and purchase order processes
Experience managing logistics providers, stock holdings and fulfilment
Strong numerical and analytical skills, including vendor performance reporting
Comfortable working within compliance and audit requirements
A track record of working with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced environment
An ability to take initiative, follow through on what you say you’ll do, and own your mistakes
Determination and tenacity, maintaining a positive attitude in challenging situations
View challenges as opportunities for growth, adapt positively to change and embrace feedback
The ability to support your team to achieve shared goals and objectives, to share your point of view, but accept when the team has made a decision to go in another direction
Clear, candid and concise communication skills - both written and verbal, but also an ability to be kind and compassionate when dealing with others
Some nice to haves include:
Experience in the New Zealand electricity market, including metering, registry or retailer operations
Familiarity with the Electricity Industry Participation Code
Experience with ERP or inventory systems and Xero
Experience in a start-up or scale-up
